Cystopteris

Cystopteris fragilis (D) brittle bladder fern Hight/Spread 30cm. One of our prettiest British natives, with fine, delicate, light green foliage, because of which it always sells well in the nursery to people looking for alpines. More of a rock garden plant than a subject for the border. It needs good drainage but well worth any effort it demands.

Cystopteris dickiana. (D) Dickies fern. Hight/Spread 20cm. A very rare British native, only found in the wild in a few sea caves in Aberdeenshire. This is a good looking little fern, though not perhaps as pretty as C. fragilis, despite being uncommon in the wild it seems very hardy in a rockery or trough garden.
